Sending your quilts through the mail is a super easy thing to do, and far more affordable than one might

imagine.  Size matters more than weight. Since what is being shipped back to you is larger than what you're sent, it is the return shipping that must be considered when calculating costs.

 

How do we minimize that return shipment cost for you?

Your freshly quilted labor of love will be placed in the smallest box possible. If you'd like, your quilt can even be vacuum packed. Dawn's truly got your best interest at heart. It's almost like she loves quilts, too! ;-)

New Customers Get A Deal 

  1.8 cents per square inch

Repeat Customers Get A Deal On Quilts 2-5

  2 cents per square inch

Quilting Density

   Moderate Stitching Density,   

    Add .10 cents per square inch.

    That's a tenth of a penny. 

    (Example, first time quilts go from 1.8 to 1.9 cents per square inch, and the standard quilting rate goes from 2.5

    cents per square inch to 2.6 cents per square inch.)

   Heavy Stitching Density,

     Add .20 cents per square inch

     That's two tenths of a penny

     (Example, first time quilts go from 1.8 to 2.0 cents per square inch, and the standard quilting rate goes from 2.5 to

     2.7 cents per inch.)

​

Backing Fabric

    Must be 8" longer and wider than your quilt top.

    Ideally, any pieced seams are horizontal to the quilt top's direction (if it has a direction).

    A vertical seam is fine. Don't let that hold you up in sending in one. It just changes things on Dawn's end.

Ironing

    If you've sent a top that's wrinkled and needs pressing before I can load it,

       Add $15 for the first half hour of pressing,

       $7.50 per additional half hour.

       (Note: shipping your quilt doesn't result in wrinkles that need to be pressed out.)

Batting

    Send your own with your quilt top,

    Have it sent from an online retail store purchase,

    Have Dawn source your preferred batting (fee applies, see Special Services).

    Use something Dawn has curated (supplies vary).

       Typically Dawn stocks either Kyoto Bamboo or a 100% cotton from the Warm Company.

    Batting Size. It must be 8" larger than your quilt top, both directions, width and length.

Quilting Design 

    In the Quilting Design email that you'll receive after your quilt elements have been received,

         you'll be given 3-5 design options and links to the top 3 sources for purchasing new design options.

    Dawn's design inventory is extensive, but she understands the desire to cherry-pick the design for

         your labor-of-love's final set of stitching!

    If you choose a design that isn't in inventory, and must be purchased, half the cost is added to the invoice.

Special Services

    Adding fabric to your backing, piecing whole cloth backing fabrics, restitching loosened seams, stain removal, etc.

     If your quilt top needs non-standard TLC, Dawn's happy to help out!

     $25 per hour.

Minimum Rate

    $50

Procedure

   Send or have shipped, your batting and backing fabric.

   Your Order moves to the Design Queue based on its arrival.

       Two things to note:

             1- The postmarked date & the date when discussions began don't influence the Order's queue ranking.

             2- The backing & batting must be in-house with your quilt top before your Order moves to the Design Queue.

       Within 3 days receipt of all three items, Dawn emails 3-5 design options. (Usually within 24 hours.)

   Your Order is put in the Longarm Queue based on when the design choice has been confirmed.

   You are invoiced when the quilt comes off the longarm.

            You'll receive a photo along with the invoice.

   Your Quilt is boxed the day after it comes off the longarm.

   Your Quilt is shipped on the Friday following full receipt of payment.

 

Shipping

    Shipping costs vary. 

    USPS is Dawn's preferred shipping method.

    UPS or FedEx requires a trip into town and may delay the return shipment date.

    Dawn will vacuum seal the quilt and any residual materials, batting and backing, to reduce their bulk.

    USPS Priority Mail Box Rates:

         Medium: $19.12

         Large: $26.30

     *Tracking is included with the USPS Priority Mail Box Rates.

     *A single 52x66 quilt and its residual backing and batting materials typically fit in a medium USPS Priority Mail Box.

     *Two 52x66 quilts and their residual backing and batting materials typically fit in a large USPS Priority Mail Box.

     *Please consider purchasing insurance when you send your top and when Dawn sends it back to you.

     *If you'd like to use a tracking device like an AirTag in your package, rest assured it will

              be used in the return shipment as well. 
   

Binding

     If you desire, Dawn will add the binding to your quilt, so you or your intended recipient receives a quilt

             ready to be loved.

     Binding Fabric Options: 

             Send with the top, have it shipped from an online retail site, have it sourced locally by Dawn,

                  or use left over backing fabric.

     Binding Rates:

•   Customer Provides Folded, Pressed and Ready Binding

                 $.25 per linear inch - applied to front only

                 $.35 per linear inch - applied to front by machine and whipstitched to the back by hand.

                    Reference Binding Costs For A 52x66 Quilt:  

                           $61.50 to apply the binding to the front

                           $86.10 to apply binding to the front and hand stitch to the back. 

 

•   Customer Provides Fabric For The Binding, or Dawn Sources It:

                 $25/hour.
